About ME
My Story
Since retiring, I have been thinking about all the different opportunities available to me.
I have lived all my life within 200 km of Toronto, and while I love my current home town of Milton very much, I have often wondered what it would be like to live abroad. Maybe England, or the Bretagne region of France, or even southern Germany.
One thing I had noticed with my years of travel across Canada with my work was that island communities have their own sense of identity. Because of their isolation, towns and villages on islands seem to work hard to create a strong community. And that appealed to me.
Then I visited Orkney and the Shetland Islands, and fell in love. This was where I wanted to live – if not permanently, at least for a few years. My plan is to live in Orkney for two years, exploring the islands, visiting family and friends in England and the Scottish lowlands, and hopefully touring around Europe.
This website will be a record of my experiences, covering everything from: transporting a dog overseas, getting settled in Scotland, dealing with a post-COVID world, through to my day-to-day life in Orkney.
